Happy Pi Day, fellow nerds! The annual celebration of the mathematical constant π or pi, also known as the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter (and here I thought I would never have a chance to use 9th grade geometry in real life!). It falls on March 14th because pi written numerically is 3.14 … and goes on forever because irrational numbers just roll that way.

In keeping with this pseudo-holiday, Google hid a nerdy little Easter egg in the Chrome calculator. To pull it up, search for “Pi”, “pi dia” or simply “calculator” on Google. You should see some stars flashing around a pi symbol in the upper left corner. When you click on it, it triggers a kind of “Simon Says” game, except with the digits of pi: The calculator briefly shows the first three digits of pi, and if you can enter all digits correctly, then it does the same for the first four digits of pi, then the first five digits, and so on. We played with that a little, which you can see in the gif below.

The calculator even registers your “highest score”, which I think is very adorable, I will not lie. Reminds me of the old days of CoolMath4Kids.

Presumably, the Google pi calculator game would continue ad infinitum like pi itself, but we still have to test this theory. Feel free to check it out for yourself and tell us what you found in the comments.
