Google Assistant ‘New Year’s Music’ Now Available

2020 comes to an end in a few days, ending a year unlike any other. 2021 will be a new beginning in more ways than one, and to start the new year, Google Assistant has a song to sing.

Now available, this super mushy song can be played on most devices with Assistant with the trigger “Ok Google, sing the New Year’s song”. On screen devices, a cute little animation of the Times Square Ball appears to dance along with the admittedly catchy type of melody.

In music, Google wants a better 2021, in addition to reminding listeners that the Assistant is available for “all of your research needs”. The entire song is also in 8-bit audio, which goes well with the Google Assistant’s robotic voice. It looks a lot like GLaDOS from Portal games.

Google Assistant will also sing this song in most regions. In England, for example, the song is sung in the same tone, but with an accent. Personally, I kind of like this one more! Other assistant voices also support this song. However, if your device is configured for another language, you may find that the Assistant simply speaks the lyrics instead of actually singing them. A Twitter user mentioned it happened in Spanish, and we were also told that the same thing happens in French.

Thank you Encestral Z!
