Tolkien more than expected.
Lord of the Rings: Gollum, by developer Daedalic Entertainment, will no longer be released this year, as originally announced, and should now arrive on Xbox, PlayStation and PC in 2022.
Details on Lords of the Rings: Gollum have been limited since the adventure action was announced in March 2019, but we finally had a clearer idea of how things could play out last August, when Daedalic released the first trailer and details of the game.
Although the movie trailer didn’t reveal much, Daedalic confirmed that he is looking for “subtle tactical stealth”, environmental puzzles, climbing challenges and “accelerated parkour action”, all in a mix of open levels and more linear missions.
The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s provocation.
More intriguingly, there is a branched narrative element, dictated through history decisions and dialogue choices. Here, players can influence Gollum’s internal conflict, highlighting the Sméagol or Gollum side of his personality, which will affect certain game situations, dialogues and even animations and sounds.
At the time of the August update, Daedalic said he expected the game on Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, PS5, Switch and PC in the “late 2021”. However, a new press release announcing a publication and distribution agreement between Daedalic and NACON confirmed that the initial launch plans have changed, with Lord of the Rings: Gollum now set to launch “in 2022”.
There is no explanation for the delay at the moment, but I hope Daedalic will share more soon.
