2 best QB candidates declare for NFL draft
The 49ers could be in the market for a quarterback in this year’s draft and two of the top possible quarterbacks have officially declared.
Kyle Trask, of Florida, declared on December 31, and Zach Wilson, of BYU, declared the following day. Both players were expected to enter this year’s draft after strong seasons. Trask is a senior, while Wilson will leave school after his first year.
The 49ers plan in the center is their biggest off-season story. Whether they do it early or wait until the 2nd or 3rd, it seems likely that San Francisco will draft a quarterback this year with Nick Mullens and CJ Beathard, both defined as free agency.

Josh Rosen can see the field for the 49ers at the end of the season
Kyle Shanahan mentioned in his presser on Friday that he wants to raise all three quarterbacks for Sunday’s game. Josh Johnson will back up CJ Beathard with Rosen as the third string. Superficially, it seems that there is no chance for Rosen to see the field.
However, I would not rule out that possibility.
Shanahan is certainly interested in seeing how much Rosen has learned in the two weeks of being with the team. I would even say that he needs to see a little Rosen. The 49ers have nothing to lose in this game, so all three quarterbacks can even be launched there.
Shanahan must treat his quarterbacks like a manager does with his pitchers. Let the proprietor play half the game and then give the substitute pitchers (reserve defenders) one entry (room) each. If Shanahan was comfortable enough, then I would give Rosen the second half and not play Johnson, who is a career reserve. There is nothing to learn from Johnson.
