Golden Nuggets: Raheem Mostert gives his vote of confidence to Jimmy Garoppolo

Mac Jones for the 49ers was the topic of last week. This week? It will be Zach Wilson after Steve Young interviewed him.

Jimmy Garoppolo, 49ers in a delicate dance: QB will come out in a year, but plot twists are yet to come

Jimmy G needs to play, and to play somewhere where he is seen as the long-term solution would be ideal, although it is not mandatory now. Especially after teams that might as well use a new QB a year from now – like New Orleans, coached by mentor Sean Payton, a colleague from Eastern Illinois QB, or Chicago, Garoppolo’s hometown team – already have provisional QBs for 2021 in a business year, but they may very well be trying to upgrade in 2022. Among the teams with recent success, the Steelers, Eagles and Washington close with the aforementioned Patriots and Texans.

Raheem Mostert believes Jimmy Garoppolo will be the starting QB for the 49ers

Count 49ers running back Raheem Mostert as someone who believes that coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch still have Jimmy Garoppolo in your plans.

Mostert said he thinks Garoppolo is still the season’s starter.

“I believe that Jimmy Garoppolo will be our starting quarterback entering this season, ”said Mostert on SiriusXM Fantasy Radio.

The 49ers did not switch to third overall choice for any reason unless they think there is a defender available in this year’s draft that will be an improvement over Garoppolo. So if Garoppolo is the 49ers holder, he is just a short-term replacement before the future 49ers franchise quarterback takes over. But Mostert still believes that Garoppolo will have the job when the season begins.

Kawakami: Mac Jones for the 49ers on Justin Fields? See why this NFL group thinking seems so wrong

I don’t think the intense focus on Jones is necessarily a calculated smoke screen from 49ers HQ, although I don’t think Shanahan and Lynch care at all, otherwise they wouldn’t have been so quick to fly for the business day. from Alabama this week.

But I think this is coming from people one or two levels outside the 49ers’ trusted team, like Chris Simms, one of Shanahan’s best friends in football, and others who know 49ers well. And it’s coming from people in the NFL who are making informed assumptions. If 49ers are willing to negotiate three first-round choices for this move, it has to be for a specific guy, right?

Free 49ers Agency: Why Richard Sherman remains without a contract in 2021

It is also possible that Sherman wants to be picky about his choices. Nothing wrong with that. Staying on the West Coast can be a priority. And because he is so late in his career, Sherman may just want to sign with a legitimate Super Bowl contender, instead of a reconstruction team like the New York Jets or the Jacksonville Jaguars. You would have to ask him about it, though.

Perhaps the biggest element, however, was the NFL’s free agency market for cornerbacks. It has been cool, and not in the good sense of the word.

Why 49ers have to show interest in Mac Jones

First of all, 49ers wouldn’t be doing their job if they didn’t do their homework on Jones. The only quarterback I’m sure they’re not digging deep in is Trevor Lawrence, since the Jaguars are going to recruit him. This means that Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, Jones and whoever else they are interested in will need to study. It is just the nature of the business.

In that sense, the 49ers are certainly interested in Jones because they are analyzing him. Whether they are seriously considering it as No. 3 is another story. I’m willing to bet that Shanahan and John Lynch ARE LOVING that the masses think Jones is a likely choice.

The 49ers never want the rest of the league to know what they can do. Despite what Shanahan mentioned about “covering his tracks” when it comes to recognition, he is still being cautious to some extent because he has to be.
