Deshaun Watson’s dream for the 49ers lives on after a report was released saying that Watson is intrigued by the idea of playing in San Francisco. It’s still far-fetched, but since Watson has a no-trade clause, those rumors won’t die anytime soon.
For JJ Watt to land with the Niners, the team would have to release Dee Ford with a post-June 1 designation. From there, you would have to be creative with the Watt contract, just as you did with George Kittle and Arik Armstead. If I were paying too much for an advantage over this free agency, I would choose Leonard Floyd of the Rams or the Cardinals Haason Reddick from a complementary point of view based on who the 49ers have advanced to.
If Watt wants to play for the Niners at a reasonable price, or if he is hired, it would be a great achievement for the team from an intangible / leadership standpoint. Nick Bosa, Javon Kinlaw and Arik Armstead would have a chance to see how Watt works and what it takes to reach and stay at an elite level of play.
Bills and Ravens make more sense as landing points for Watt.
Who is Bobby Slowik and why is he climbing the 49ers training chart? A postal bag
I was hopeful that Trent Taylor and Jerick McKinnon would return from the injury and be solid contributors to the attack. Will I have the same disappointment with Jalen Hurd? – Dustin F.
Every 49ers fan should already know that there is no way to predict who will come back strong from the tears of the ACL and who will not. The silver lining for Hurd’s injury is a) It was isolated for the ACL and, unlike Nick Bosa and Solomon Thomas, no other part of the knee was involved and b) It happened in August. With simple ACL tears, the patient can be back in nine months. Which would mean that the end of the tail of OTAs and minicamp seems to be a possibility for Hurd.
49ers President Al Guido on using the facility as a vaccination site for COVID-19: ‘It is up to us to give back to the community’
“We started working on it frankly about two months ago,” said Guido. “And we are happy to open a few days ago. We are doing just over 1,000 (vaccinations) a day now and, frankly, the best thing about our facilities – not just ours, but all NFL stadiums – is that we have 2,000,000 square feet where we can vaccinate people. … We believe that we will reach 15,000 people a day, making it the largest location in California. Honestly, like all states now, we are just waiting for the supply. But it’s been going well so far. We are very proud to partner with our Santa Clara County Department of Public Health to achieve this.
Free NFL Agency: Underrated players that the San Francisco 49ers should target
Why not go after a previous first-round pick at Neal as a cheaper alternative? After winning a Pro Bowl trip with Atlanta in 2017, the Florida product played four combined games over the next two seasons.
He appeared in 15 games in 2020, but he was not the same player we saw before the injury. Adding Neal to the mix would not prevent San Francisco from getting safe at some point in the draft, but it wouldn’t force the team’s hands in the beginning. Neal probably doesn’t make more than $ 5 million a year.
49ers cannot risk losing Deshaun as they did with Stafford
Before the 49ers could blink, his best chance of clearly improving in the quarterback was to pack for Los Angeles and will now face the 49ers twice a year in the near future. The 49ers were flanked by their rivals in the Stafford trade negotiations, while the Rams were doing what the 49ers, until now, were not willing to do by going all-in to maximize their title window.
The 49ers cannot let that happen again, especially with Deshaun Watson holding tight to his desire to be traded this off season. On Thursday, Ty Dunne of Go Long reported that Watson had the 49ers and the Miami Dolphins at the top of his wish list, and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN noted that the 49ers and the Denver Broncos are among the teams that “intrigue” the star QB.
49ers Keep or Release: Safety
Jaquiski Tartt
Tartt is one of the NFL’s best security guards when healthy. Unfortunately for the 49ers, the six-year veteran has lost 24 games in the past four seasons and has never played a full 16-game schedule.
Tartt played 373 pressures, the lowest point of his career, in 2020. The highlight of his season would come at the opening of the season against Arizona, when he would intercept a pass from Kyler Murray, Murray’s first spin in his young career against the 49ers.
Tartt would end 2020 with 30 tackles, an interception and four defended passes
Keep or release: release
An unrestricted free agent, Tartt is not expected to be back with the 49ers in 2021.
