“Borat” star Sacha Baron Cohen launched some light political blows by accepting his Golden Globe on Sunday.
“Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm”, the sequel to his hugely successful 2006 comedy, took home the award for best film – musical or comedy, and Cohen personally won for an actor’s best performance in a film – musical or comedy. During his acceptance speeches, he addressed not only the topic of diversity that dominated the evening’s conversation, but also the man who helped make the film so interesting in 2020.
“Thanks to the totally white Hollywood Foreign Press,” Baron Cohen began his acceptance speech, echoing the sentiments made by presenters Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who criticized the organization’s lack of diversity at the top of the show.

He then mocked former President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, who made headlines after the film’s release for apparently being caught on camera in a compromising position with a woman during a fake interview for the film. Since then, the ex-mayor of New York explained that the images of him tucking his shirt into his pants were made to look like images of him with his hand inside his pants.

“This film could not have been possible without my co-star, a new talent that came out of nowhere and became a comedy genius,” said Cohen, making the audience think he was talking about his co-star, Maria Bakalova. “I’m talking, of course, about Rudy Giuliani. I mean, who would get the most laugh when opening the zipper? Amazing, our film was just the beginning for him. Rudy starred in a series of comedy films. Hits like, ‘Four Seasons Landscaping ” Hairdye Another Day ‘and the court drama’ A Very Public Fart ‘. ”

He concluded on a more serious note, thanking his cast and crew, including Bakalova, who he called “revelation” and “sensation”, as well as his wife, actress Isla Fisher.
In another speech, while receiving the award for acting, Cohen scoffed at former President Trump, joking that he was contesting the Golden Globe result.

“He is claiming that many dead people voted, which is a very rude thing to say about the HFPA,” joked Cohen, criticizing Trump’s claims that widespread electoral fraud led to his defeat for Joe Biden in the 2020 race.
