Goldberg Makes WWE’s Impressive and Doubtful Return to the Royal Rumble Clash

Goldberg is set to face Drew McIntyre for the WWE title at the Royal Rumble after a shocking comeback on “Monday Night Raw”.

The much-maligned veteran, 54, lost the Universal title to Braun Strowman at WrestleMania 36 and appeared for the first time since to face the Scotsman.

He joined a series of icons when he returned to WWE for a special episode of Monday Night Raw legends – but the former WCW star had more than just a special appearance on his mind.

McIntyre was defending his title against the equally powerful Keith Lee at the show’s main event.

The two men enjoyed an epic battle, with the Briton bombing his opponent through the announcements table, while he also managed to fight back after being caught by a Spanish upper rope fly.

Eventually, it was Mcintyre who prevailed by hitting a Claymore Kick for the win.

However, when he thought his night was over, Goldberg’s music suddenly hit him as he went down to the ring and grabbed a microphone.

Goldberg started by praising McIntyre and said he doesn’t get the respect his talent deserves. But he then stated that the champion only looks at legends as fighters out of his prime and thinks he is better than them.

Goldberg then challenged him to a title fight at Rumble on January 31. McIntyre responded by saying that it would be like he was fighting his own father.

And that provoked Goldberg, who angrily threw the 35-year-old actor to the ground with a big push when the show went off the air.

Goldberg came out of retirement to return to WWE in 2017, but he has struggled only four times since then, receiving fierce criticism for the quality of these performances, in addition to the huge paydays he received.

Despite being only part-time, he would have received a seven-digit fee for his two previous presentations in Saudi Arabia.

The first was in June 2019, when Goldberg lost to Undertaker in the Super ShowDown in a disastrous fight full of noteworthy mistakes.

He almost inflicted serious injuries on the Undertaker with a failed attempt by Jackhammer, while he also suffered a concussion.

The fans were furious after that, and that rage intensified when he crushed the popular “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt at Super ShowDown in February to become the Universal champion.

He would then face Roman Reigns at ‘Mania, before the Big Dog retired from the show and was replaced by Strowman, who beat Goldberg quickly.

The WCW legend is believed to have retired after his disappointing recent departures, but he smashed that theory by revealing that he is under contract with WWE until 2023.
