Gold medal for Huwalt puts Auburn ahead of South Carolina Invitational

AUBURN, Alabama (EETV) – Second-year student Maura Huwalt won her first high school win in a women’s shot put at the South Carolina Invitational, a meeting in which Auburn athletes had 27 collective or career records.

Huwalt not only achieved a sweep in the shot put, but also took seventh place in the female shot put. She had the best performance of her university career, making personal records in both events.

Huwalt’s fourth pitch earned him the event and was almost a meter more than his personal record when entering the competition. Today she is 11th national and 1st in the Southeast Conference. This was a great day for Huwalt, as she continued to beat her own records by more than a meter at the weightlifting.

Auburn had other notable performances by Madi Malone and Jocelynn Budwig in the shot put and shot put for women. On the male side of the competition, notable performances were Kyle Brown at the weightlifting. All of these pitchers left the match with their best personal results.

Auburn will travel back to South Carolina this week for the USC Open.
