A GoFundMe campaign launched by the son of a shooting victim in Atlanta has raised more than $ 1.5 million from 38,000 donors in the 19 hours since it aired.
Why does it matter: Hyun Jung Grant, 51, was one of six Asian women killed during a sniper attack at Gold Spa on Tuesday night. In total, eight people were killed.
- Grant’s identity was released on Friday, along with details of the other victims.
- In an update on Friday, her son Randy Park thanked the donors and said, “My mom can rest easy knowing that I have the support of the world with me.”
What is he saying: In her initial post on GoFundMe, Park called her mother “one of my best friends and the biggest influence on who we are today”.
- Grant was a single mother who supported herself and two children alone in the United States
- “Losing it put a new lens in my eyes on the amount of hatred that exists in our world.”
- Park applied for funds for basic living needs.
On Friday, Park updated the page with a post expressing your gratitude.
- “Thank you all and please share all the care and kindness you have shown here with anyone you know who feels scared or insecure about the world we live in,” she added.
