The film grossed $ 27.9 million in the first three days alone at the box office in the United States, by far the best display of the pandemic.

Godzilla vs. Kong continued to mark the best opening numbers for the pandemic at the American box office, raising another $ 11.6 million on Friday, for a total of $ 27.9 million in three days.

That puts Legendary and Warner Bros. on the way to post a $ 42 million premiere in five days at the end of Easter weekend, in a necessary boost for the devastated theater industry.

This is by far the biggest exhibition since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis. Godzilla vs. Kong is being shown in 3,064 cinemas, a peak in the pandemic era.

Even so, the American box office continues to face major challenges in the attempt to recover.

More than 93% of the US market is at stake now, but only 24% of Canada, according to Warner Bros. Many cinemas have limited capacity, including Los Angeles and New York. On Tuesday, Los Angeles County officially entered the Orange level, but will not be allowed to increase capacity from 25% to 50% until April 5.

Godzilla vs. Kong, the fifth entry in Legendary’s MonsterVerse series, won an A CinemaScore from the public. The film is distorting men and young people.

The film directed by Adam Wingard is being shown to an ethnically diverse audience: Caucasians, 33 percent; Hispanic, 27 percent; African American, 23 percent; Asian, 10 percent; and Native Americans and others, 7 percent.

Legendary and his partner Warner Bros. they already won a big victory last weekend, when the monster mashup debuted with a stellar $ 123 million at the foreign box office, the best premiere of a Hollywood movie in the pandemic era. This included more than $ 70 million in China.

So far, the best three-day opening of the pandemic in North America belongs to Warners’ Wonder Woman 1984 ($ 16.7 million), which opened at Christmas during a second wave of COVID-19 cases that led to a wave of theater re-closings, while theaters in Los Angeles and New York had not yet reopened.

As Wonder Woman 1984, the film premiered day and date on HBO Max.
