Godzilla vs Kong has already been released, giving fans a showdown of iconic cinema monsters on the big screen (wait, they’re still small screens at the moment for most of us).
Now that the film has been released, director Adam Wingard is looking at his next project: a cinematic reinvention of the classic cartoon ThunderCats.
Although the IP is not related to Cats, you may be concerned that the Hollywood trend to try to make cartoon things look photorealistic, which has led to CGI monstrosities like the damn 2019 musical adaptation, will strike again here.
Wingard secured Deadline that will not be the case, as this is a project of great passion for him and he has a defined vision for ThunderCats reboot.

“I want to make one ThunderCats film that takes you back to the 80s aesthetic, “he said.” I don’t want to reinvent their appearance; I want them to look like ThunderCats. I also don’t want to do it live.
“I don’t want it to look CatsI don’t want that kind of problem – no disrespect for this director, who I don’t intend to throw under the bus any more than everyone else did. I want to make a movie that you’ve never seen before. A hybrid CGI film that looks hyper real and somehow bridges the gap between cartoon and CGI. This is the starting point. “
And when we say that Wingard really likes feline superheroes, we mean it.

He explained: “My real obsession with ThunderCats came in high school, the height of me deciding that I wanted to be a filmmaker and go in that direction … In fact, I spent most of my 10th year, I screwed up. I didn’t pay attention at school, I got bad grades.
“And the reason? I was writing my ThunderCats script throughout my 10th year. And I was writing by hand. The script itself ended up being 272 pages long. I still have that. “
Godzilla vs Kong is available for rental at home in the UK on Prime Video, iTunes and other participating digital retailers, while it is available to watch now in US cinemas and on HBO Max in the USA.
