GO Battle League season 6 update

‘Stay tuned’ was the phrase we received in the initial announcement of Season 6 for GO Battle League, which made the community anxious. The wait is over and we confirm the information about the second half of season 6 for GO Battle League.

This announcement introduces us to the format change of the remaining league, along with reward updates with exciting new movement updates that guarantee to shake things up for today’s current goal.

We will review this announcement and discuss the key points about these future changes.

League format summary

The great league will run from Monday, January 11, 2021, at 1 pm, to Monday, January 25, 2021, at 1 pm PST (GMT -8).

The Ultra League and yours Premier Cup will run from Monday, January 25, 2021, at 1 pm, to Monday, February 8, 2021, at 1 pm PST (GMT -8).

The Master League, It is Premier Cup, Master League Classic, and a special cup to be announced will take place from Monday, February 8, 2021, at 1 pm, to Monday, February 15, 2021, at 1 pm PST (GMT -8). More information about this special cup will be announced soon.

All three leagues and the Ultra League Premier Cup will take place from Monday, February 15, 2021, at 1:00 pm, to Monday, February 22, 2021, at 1:00 pm PST (GMT -8).

The kanto cup will run from Monday, February 22, 2021, at 1 pm, to Monday, March 1, 2021, at 1 pm PST (GMT -8). The CP limit for this cup will be 1,500, and only Pokémon with a Pokédex number between 001 and 151 will be allowed. During this period, your rating will not be affected.

As we can see, it seems that the second half of season 6 will work as a full circle, restarting with the Great League and making its natural progression to the Master League.
We were teased with the announcement of a ‘special’ cup starting on February 8, but we don’t have a lot of information about it yet. The Kanto Cup will be back after the Master League from February 22, as we saw in the 5th season.

Personally, I can see the first half of season 6 as a warm-up for what’s to come. Trial and error led to this second half and the competition will be fierce. Trainers will compete to reach Rank 24 and with the following movement changes listed below, things are sure to be intense on the battlefield.

Reward update

When you reach rank 20, you’re sure to find Frillish, which is making its debut on Pokémon GO! You’ll also have a chance to meet him on the rewards trails for higher positions!

In position 19, you will receive a Elite Charged TM. You will also receive a Elite Fast TM as an end of season reward, if you reach 19th position.

Frillish

Frillish will now be available as a meeting reward to win battles in the GO Battle League. Frillish it is a Water AND Ghost Pokémon. It is vulnerable to Grass, Dingy, Ghost and Electric movements. Frillish’s strongest moveset is Bubble AND Ice bundle and has a maximum CP of 1,257. Frillish evolves into Gelatinous.

Gelatinous

Gelatinous it is a [water] and Ghost Pokémon type with a maximum CP 2644 making it a strong Pokémon in Ultra League. Jellicent has 159 attack, Defense 178 and 225 resistance in Pokémon GO. It was originally found in the Unova region (Gn 5). Jellicent is vulnerable to Dingy, Electric, Ghost and Grass like movements. Jellicent’s best moves are Bubble and Shadow ball (11.78 DPS)

Attack updates

The following attacks will be updated for Trainer Battles:

Ember: This one Fire type Fast attack now it will cause more damage.
Karate Chop: This one Fighting type Fast attack now it will generate more energy.
Bubble: This one Water type Fast attack now it will do less damage.
Razor Leaf: This one Grass type Fast attack now it will do less damage.
Crabhammer: This one Water type Loaded Attack now it will cause more damage.
Sky Attack: This one Flight type Loaded Attack now it will do less damage.
Rock Slide: This one Rock type Loaded Attack now it will do less damage.
Shadow Bone: This one Ghost type Loaded Attack now it will do less damage.

The following attacks will be available to Pokémon that haven’t been able to learn them before:

Time ball:
Fire: This powerful Fire type of attack will now be available to Vulpix and Ninetales originally discovered in Kanto Region.
Time ball: Ice: This powerful Ice type attack will now be available for Vulpix and Ninetales originally discovered in Alola Region.
Time ball: Water: This powerful Water type of attack will now be available to Politoed.
Ice Punch: This powerful Ice type attack will now be available for Primeape.
Ice bundle: This powerful Ice type attack will now be available for Claydol.
Shadow ball: This powerful Ghost type of attack will now be available to Claydol.
Tri Attack: This powerful Normal type attack will now be available for Porygon-2.
Mud shot: This powerful Earth Fast Attack type will now be available for Excadrill.

These movement changes will mix the meta, popular Pokémon and strategies have now been nerfed, with notable Pokémon being Azumaril with Bubble now causing less damage, for the infamous’Grasshole‘strategy with Razor Leaf now causing less damage. Will we see an entirely new goal with these changes in movement?

These nerfs also affect popular Pokémon, such as Skarmory with Sky Attack, Stunfisk (Galarian) with Rock Slide and also Marowak (Alolan) with Shadow Bone.

Of these newly introduced moves that certain Pokémon can now learn, some stand out more than others. Consider for example, Primeape, which now has access to Ice Punch who will be able to handle Flight type Pokémon that normally opposed Primeape in the past. This change not only benefits Primeape, it can now generate energy more quickly with the buff for Karate Chop.

Kanto Nintetails will also be a solid candidate with these changes with increasing damage to Ember and now having access to Weather ball Fire.

However, these changes are exciting and we can’t wait to see what kind of Pokémon and tactics people will use in the second half of season 6.

Good luck, coaches! and remember to stay safe.
