General Motors just ran its first ad during Super Bowl 55, and now we have the answer on why Will Ferrell doesn’t like Norway so much. If you watched the teaser, you’ll know the the theory I expounded was correct.
Ferrell joins other comedians Kenan Thompson and Awkwafina (Nora Lum) to travel to Norway in an effort to give the country a break from its mind when it comes to the Scandinavian country’s wild adoption of electric cars. Ferrell and GM think the US can do much better. In Norway, more than half of all cars sold are electric. Here in the USA, that figure is just 4%, according to GM data. Essentially, GM wants to bring troops back home to be pumped into a series of new EVs coming in 2025. You will also spy shots from the Cadillac Lyriq and GMC Hummer EV along – just two of the 30 models coming, by the automaker’s current count.
GM pushes Ferrell’s trademark stupid comedy message that it’s hard not to like, although the fact that none of the team members ends up in Norway seems to defeat the message a little. However, it is a laugh appropriate to the Super Bowl that further expands the latest “Everyone participates” marketing message. The automaker promises that it is serious to put more Americans in electric cars, and that comes in the wake of Biden Administration dropping its weight behind zero-emission power trains as well.
