GM stops production of the Corvette C8 again due to a supply problem

As if the delays caused, among other things, by the COVID-19 pandemic last year were not enough, the C8 Corvette suffered yet another setback, as supply chain problems forced the company to stop production.

The report appeared at the corvetteforum, where a customer posted an email notifying them that the vehicle ordered through the National Corvette Museum’s Delivery Program would be delayed.

By post:

BGAP (Bowling Green Assembly Plant) has just announced the suspension of production for the week of 2/1 due to problems in the supply chain. Due to recent delays and this shutdown, the new expected completion date for your car is 2/12. If your previously scheduled interim appointment does not fall at least 2 weeks after this date, we will need to reschedule.

The R8C Museum Delivery program is a $ 1,000 option that allows customers to pick up their vehicles at the National Corvette Museum, which is close to the Bowling Green Corvette assembly plant. There they take a guided tour of the museum, a presentation about their vehicle, a personalized interior panel plate and much more.

Chevrolet, for its part, confirmed to the Corvette Blogger that the delay was affecting all production at Bowling Green and that the delay would last for a week.

“The assembly of the Bowling Green will not start production in the week of February 1,” wrote Chevrolet. “Our supply chain, manufacturing and engineering teams are working closely with our supply base to mitigate any additional impact on production, and we expect the plant to resume normal operations on Monday, February 8th.”

This is the third shutdown due to supply problems since the plant reopened in May 2020, after a two-month hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the last in October.
