The new goal comes along with recent and future EV introductions, including the Hummer EV poster boy, new Chevy Bolts and the Cadillac Celestiq. So far, GM plans to offer 30 new EVs by 2025 and expects most or all Cadillacs to be electric by 2030.
GM supported electric transport for a while, but critics accused it of shifting its focus depending on who commands the United States. He supported the Trump administration’s process that was trying to take California away from its power to set independent fuel emissions rules, but gave up shortly after Joe Biden’s election victory. President Biden signed a series of pro-environment policies just a day before GM’s announcement, including a review of fossil fuel developments – although GM may not have made a hasty decision, it clearly knows that combustion engines don’t there will be many fans at White Casa.
The question is whether other American automakers will follow suit or not. Ford and Fiat Chrysler have talked about electrifying their lines for years, but have not yet established a cutoff point where EVs are the only options at dealerships. While GM’s announcement may be both to generate positive media and to help the planet, this may not be a problem if it encourages rivals to follow suit.
