General Motors Co. said on Thursday that it plans to offer only electric vehicles in 15 years, on its way to becoming a carbon neutral company by 2040.
GM said it worked with the nonprofit Environmental Defense Fund “to develop a shared vision of a fully electric future and an aspiration to eliminate exhaust emissions from new light vehicles by 2035”.
The goal is to focus on zero-emission vehicles in a price range and work with others, including EDF, to – build charging networks and promote consumer acceptance “while maintaining high-quality jobs, which will all be needed to serve to these ambitious goals, ”said GM.

Earlier this year, GM said it would offer 30 all-electric models worldwide by the middle of the decade, and that 40% of the company’s models in the United States will be battery-powered electric vehicles by the end of 2025.
The automaker is investing $ 27 billion in electric and autonomous vehicles over the next five years, up from the $ 20 billion planned before the COVID-19 pandemic. The plans also include fuel efficiency gains for vehicles with internal combustion engines.
