‘Glacier Bro’ reported dead after falling into icy water

A Chinese influencer known as “Glacier Bro” is presumed dead after he was last seen on video losing his balance near icy waters in Tibet.

Wang Xiangjun – who gained followers online by posting videos of visiting glaciers – was exploring a waterfall when he disappeared on December 20 in Lhari County, in northern Tibet, the BBC reported.

Images posted on Chinese social media platforms showed the 30-year-old man sliding near the base of the waterfall into icy, fast-flowing waters, the agency said.

Local authorities said they launched search efforts, but were unable to find him.

A local official involved in the efforts, however, said it was “almost impossible” for the influencer to survive.

“He could be under an ice pack. The water is 10 to 20 meters (32 to 65 feet) deep, ”the official told the Chinese state newspaper Global Times.

His brother posted a statement on Wang’s social media accounts confirming his death, the Independent reported.

“My brother stays forever at his favorite waterfall,” read the message.

“He was obsessed with glaciers all his life while he was working on them, and this was the best place for him to rest,” he continued.
