If you were worried about Rudy Giuliani leaving all of your Four Seasons Total Landscaping control buttons, hair dye and press conferences in the past, rejoice. Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer, is still at it.
His latest faux pas involved calling Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama to formulate a strategy on how to cut the Electoral College call that is happening on Capitol Hill. The only problem? Giuliani called the wrong guy.
Instead, he left the mailbox with another (unidentified) senator, who forwarded a recording of the call to The Dispatch.
The impressively sloppy link is reminiscent of a Scooby-Doo villain revealing the details of his evil plan. In it, Giuliani describes the Republican Party’s strategy to “slow down” the counting of electoral certification votes and seems to admit that the Trump team was left with no legitimate challenges to Joe Biden’s victory in the elections.
“The only strategy we can follow is to object to several states and to raise questions so that we can enter tomorrow – preferably by the end of tomorrow,” he said. “So, if you could oppose all states and, together with a parliamentarian, get an audience for all states, I know that we would be very late, but that would give us the opportunity to get legislators who are very, very close to withdrawing your vote. “
He then expressed frustration with the Senate majority leader, Mitch McConnell, who in recent weeks has split from Trump’s party line that the presidential election had been stolen from him. This statement has been refuted repeatedly and is based on conspiracy theories.
“I know that McConnell is doing everything he can to hurry, which is a kind of kick in the head because it is one thing to oppose us, another thing not to give us a fair chance to challenge it,” said Giuliani.
Giuliani appeared at President Trump’s rally at the White House on Wednesday, in which the president encouraged his supporters to walk to the Capitol to protest.
The former New York mayor seemed to be in step with Trump, at one point suggesting that the election should be determined by “trial by combat”.
Giuliani told the assembled crowd that slowing the counting of electoral votes would allow for a more thorough analysis of “fraudulent” ballots and “crooked” machines, although there was no evidence of widespread electoral or electoral fraud.
“In the next 10 days, we will see machines that are crooked, banknotes that are fraudulent and we are wrong, we will be made fools of,” he said. “But if we are right, many of them will go to jail.”
This is the second recording of a call that made headlines for Trump and his allies this week. On Monday, The Washington Post released the audio and transcript of a call President Trump made to Georgia’s Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, in which the president told Raffensperger that he wanted him to find “11,780 votes” – one more than the number of votes that Biden defeated him for in the state.
