Gina Torres appeared in “The Matrix Reloaded” and “The Matrix Revolutions” as Cas, widow of former pilot Dozer of Nebuchadnezzar. A small supporting role, Cas and his two children helped to put a face on the population of Zion, the last human city on Earth. Cas ended the original “Matrix” trilogy alive, while the main characters Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Neo (Keanu Reeves) seemed to die. And yet, Trinity and Neo are returning for “The Matrix 4” later this year, while Cas is not. In a recent interview with Variety, Torres said he is looking for answers about these returning dead characters.

“I don’t want to be bitter or anything, but the people who are actually in the film have died,” said Torres. “And people who are not, no. So that’s all I have to say about it. I am so curious as to where they are going with this. And what is their starting point and what story do they want, because they seem to have told it. “

Looking back at her involvement with the original “Matrix” trilogy, Torres remembered Laurence Fishburne telling her about the first installment and his reaction was, “Sure, good luck with that. Torres then visited “The Matrix” set in Sydney and realized how wrong his initial skepticism was after watching test footage.

“The Wachowski had dinner because they wanted to show the cast what they had done together. And what they cut together was the start of the rescue sequence, ”said Torres. “It was Carrie-Anne [Moss]. It was Hugo [Weaving] basically telling his men that they were already dead. Cut to Carrie-Anne by kicking the main butt and then that whole bank sequence where they go to rescue Morpheus and the first time you see the bullet time. “

Torres continued: “I’m sitting there and I didn’t even know that my mouth was open. As if I had no idea how much my jaw dropped. And so I don’t think I really took a deep breath for three minutes. I was like, ‘Oh, this is what you’re doing here in Sydney.’ “

Warner Bros. is scheduled to debut “The Matrix 4” on December 22, 2021. The film is included in the studio’s hybrid-theatrical release model, meaning it will open in theaters the same day it is available for broadcast exclusively on HBO Max for 31 days.
