Gina Carano says she was ‘intimidated’ by Disney, draws attention to the company’s double political standard

Gina Carano is talking about her resignation from the Disney + series “The Mandalorian” because of comments she made on social media.

The actress played Cara Dune for two seasons in the hit series set in the “Star Wars” universe, but faced requests for Lucasfilm and Disney to fire her because of her conservative social media presence. She sat down with Ben Shapiro of the Daily Wire, with whom she now has a film contract, to discuss this situation on “The Ben Shapiro Show”.

“I’ve been through so much and seen so much now, clearly, of the bullying that is occurring, and I’ve seen it before,” she explains in a preview of Sunday’s interview (via Deadline). “I’m not the only one who has been bullied by this company, and I know that deeply.”

Carano says she could share a story that “would change things in the media”, but not because it would involve a friend.

“Everyone is afraid of losing their job,” she said.

The former MMA fighter claims that her former employers were looking for a reason to fire her from the show, comparing the situation to headhunting in boxing.

“Do you know how boxers sometimes hunt heads and forget to go after the body? I feel like Disney or Lucasfilm or whatever, just certain people in that company … I feel like I’ve been hunted (… ) and you can feel it, “she explains.

The last straw for Lucasfilm and Disney came when Carano drew criticism for a post on social media in which he compared today’s political divide to events in Nazi Germany and conservatives to the Jewish people. She had previously reacted to other comments about the coronavirus, the use of gender pronouns and electoral fraud.

Speaking with Shapiro, she reiterated an earlier claim that she learned of her resignation from “The Mandalorian” on social media along with everyone else. However, she claims that an email that was accidentally sent to her put the writing on the wall before her resignation.

“They accidentally sent me an email, which was very enlightening, so I knew. I knew they were paying attention. I know some people tried to defend me, but I know they didn’t win in the end,” she said.

She goes on to note that she believes the company is favoring the application of social media from stars based on where they fall on the political spectrum, arguing that there is a double standard.

‘”They’re on top of me and watching me like a hawk, and I’m watching people in the same production and they can say whatever they want, and that’s when I had a problem. I had a problem because I wasn’t watching the narrative, “she explained.

Carano concludes his thoughts on the subject in the sample clip by doubling up on his claim that Disney was “intimidating” her into silence.

“I was prepared at any moment to be dismissed, because I’ve seen it happen to a lot of people. I saw the looks on their faces. I saw the bullying that happens, and when it started, they point the guns at you, and you know it’s just a matter of time, I’ve seen it happen with so many people, and I just thought to myself (…) ‘you come after me, I know you’re coming.’ They are making it very obvious through their employees that were coming after me, and then I thought, ‘I’m going to swing down and I’m going to stay true to myself.’

Although there are still requests for Disney to reverse its decision and bring Carano back as Cara Dune in the third season of “The Mandalorian”, the actress has already moved to a new project in partnership with Shapiro and The Daily Wire.

“Daily Wire is helping to fulfill one of my dreams – to develop and produce my own film -“, said the star in a statement prior to the vehicle. “I screamed and my prayer was answered. I am sending a direct message of hope to everyone who lives in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian crowd. I have just started using my voice, which is now more free than ever, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t allow it.

“We couldn’t be more excited to work with Gina Carano, an incredible talent abandoned by Disney and Lucasfilm for offending the authoritarian left of Hollywood. That’s what the Daily Wire exists for: offering an alternative not just for consumers, but for creators who refuse to bow to the crowd, “added Shapiro.
