‘Gilmore Girls’ star David Sutcliffe denies involvement in Capitol riot

“Gilmore Girls” actor David Sutcliffe is setting the record amid rumors he participated in the Capitol building rebellion earlier this month.

Sutcliffe, 51, logged on to his Twitter account over the weekend to answer the charges that put him on Capitol Hill on January 6, the day the building was breached by protesters and resulted in the deaths of at least five people, including a police officer.

“There are rumors circulating that I ‘invaded the capital’ (sic)”, Sutcliffe tweeted. “It’s not true – although I was proud to share a cigarette with this great Patriot!”

In the same tweet, the actor shared a video of a man who allegedly filmed himself smoking marijuana inside the Capitol.

“We made history, people. People are smoking marijuana here. Can I please go over there and make history with you? I’m smoking marijuana. We made history,” says an unidentified man in the video. “Thank you Patriota, we made history. This is our home.”

Sutcliffe’s tweet generated mixed reactions from fans, with some claiming it was inappropriate, while others questioned whether he was kidding.

A fan reacted, “Is it possible that he is joking? I literally saw it a few days ago and laughed and kept thinking it was a real joke. I feel like he’s sitting at home laughing … watching the outrage. If it’s not a joke, then … I am worried. And sad. And worried “, to which Sutcliffe replied:” Correct “.

The actor also shared the fan’s tweet, writing “I feel seen”, seeming to confirm that he was not serious.

Despite appearing to confirm that he was joking, Sutcliffe still received resistance.

“There is nothing ‘patriotic’ about this guy breaking into the capitol building and smoking weed. Absolutely nothing!” 1 The Twitter user said.

“Disappointed, but mostly with myself for believing that your true personality was being reflected in the characters you played. You were always seen, but obviously not understood. I, for one, cannot hear anymore,” another answered.

“Wrong way of ‘being seen'”, another claimed.

A Sutcliffe representative did not immediately respond to Fox News’s request for comment.

Sutcliffe is not the first celebrity to face charges of assaulting the Capitol. Jay Kay, the lead singer of the Jamiroquai group, was forced to deny that he was in the Capitol riot the day after it occurred.
