It has been announced that an animated film entitled Gilgamesh is in progress. Fortnite’s Epic Games will be one of the main supporters of the project.
An animated film entitled Gilgamesh is in development at the Latin American film studio Hook Up with Fifteen days game developer Epic Games is investing in the project. Epic Games will also supply its Unreal Engine technology as the animation center in which the film will be created. The Unreal Engine was used recently in both The Mandalorian and Westworld for the creation of virtual scenarios and visual experiences, which are both surprising and credible measures.
According Deadline, the film will follow the life, adventures and tragedies of the legendary Gilgamesh, who served as inspiration for the well-known stories Odyssey and Iliad. The main plot will be about Gilgamesh in search of immortality, his rocky relationship with the enemy Enkidu (which is reminiscent of the relationship between Frodo and Sam) and how this old Indiana Jones-like character became a demigod.
Epic Games taking its first foray into the world of films seems to be the logical next step for the company, especially with all the photorealistic work its game engine has already provided for popular television programs. Having Unreal helping others to create content has enabled Epic to grow and create a multiplatform business, becoming more than just a video game and software development company. While an animated film likes Gilgamesh which is in the same vein as a Pixar film may not seem like a big step, it will open more doors for them if the film is successful, which it probably will be.
