Giants to hire Jake McGee

The Giants are signing independent dealer Jake McGee, Robert Murray from Fansided reports. It is a $ 7 million two-year deal for the client Wasserman, for Jon Heyman of MLB Network.

San Francisco will be the National League West’s third stop for southpaw McGee, a 34-year-old who shared the previous five seasons between Rockies and Dodgers. McGee was not very successful in Colorado, which acquired the former Ray before 2016 and then rehired him with a three-year $ 27 million guarantee for the next off-season. As a result of his fights as a Rockie, McGee had to settle for a low-cost contract with the Dodgers last summer.

McGee’s signing worked brilliantly for the Dodgers, who ran over the competition during the regular season and then won the World Series title. Although McGee was not the most instrumental part of the team’s race, he gave Los Angeles an excellent 2.66 ERA / 1.81 SIERA in 20 1/3 innings.

McGee’s version of the Dodgers went for an almost all-fastball approach and averaged 95 mph on his heater – his best since 2014 – by posting eye-popping stripes and walking percentages of 41.8 and 3.8, respectively. His K-BB percentage (38.0) came in second among appeasers, behind the Brewers Rookie of the Year winner Devin Williams. McGee also finished at the top of the main Statcast categories like expected hitting average, expected weighted average at base and expected ERA. On the other hand, he was close to the bottom in speed of exit and rate of hard hits.

Now that he is headed for division rival Giants, McGee will be the most established southpaw in his bullpen. The team has other options, however, including Jarlin Garcia (which, like McGee, kept leaking from the board at a great pace in 2020) and Sam Selman.
