THE Giants added a great name to Joe Judge’s second staff. New York officially hired Jeremy Pruitt to be a defensive assistant, the team announced. Pruitt is leaving a high-profile job after serving as a head coach in Tennessee for the past three seasons. He was fired by the university last month as part of a cleaning job after an investigation found that major recruitment violations had occurred. An ex Nick Saban a protégé who was the defensive coordinator in Alabama before taking office in Tennessee, Pruitt had never trained in the NFL before. Judge was assistant to special teams in Alabama from 2009-11, while Pruitt was on the team, so there is some familiarity here.

Here’s more from the ranks of coaches on a quiet Sunday:

  • THE Rams separated from a highly regarded offensive lineman and racing game coordinator Aaron Kromer a few days ago, and they are not wasting time to replace it. Los Angeles will sign Kevin carberry to be the new coach of the O line, a source told Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network (Twitter Link) The speed with which Sean McVay this movement done seems to indicate that it was already under construction for a while. Carberry was the coordinator of the racing game at Stanford before taking office. As Pelissero points out, Carberry was on the team in Washington with McVay. He was an assistant coach on the O line in Washington under OC McVay in 2016.
  • These two coaches are leaving the college ranks for the professionals, but we also have a college professional to pass on. Ravens running backs coach Matt Weiss is leaving to become Michigan quarterback coach Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network tweets. Weiss will no longer be a coach in John Harbaugh for his brother Jim Harbaugh in Michigan. As a running back coach in Baltimore for the past two years, Weiss helped orchestrate one of the league’s best ground games.
  • THE thieves are undergoing many changes in this off-season, including Mike Tomlin’s staff. He will have a new secondary coach in 2021, as the team hired Grady Brown to fill that role, they announced. He has been the defensive coordinator at McNeese State and Old Dominion small schools for the past few years. This is his first performance as a full-time coach in the NFL.
