Giants’ Patrick Graham refuses Jets interview request and signs extension | And now for Joe Douglas in search of coaching?

This is too much for the defensive coordinator of the Giants, Patrick Graham, jumping to the Jets.

Graham, who impressed in 2020 by leading an insufficient defense, is clearly a valuable part of coach Joe Judge’s team.

And although Graham is likely to get a serious head coach appearance, he will not be the Jets’ replacement for Adam Gase in 2021. The Jets requested an interview with Graham before he signed this contract extension.

Graham was one of six candidates that the Jets requested permission to interview, as general manager Joe Douglas leads this search.

Here are the other five, including the interest they received from other teams in this hiring cycle:

– Matt Eberflus, defensive coordinator for Colts (Texans, Chargers)

– Arthur Smith, Titans offensive coordinator (Chargers, Jaguars, Lions, Falcons, Texans)

– Eric Bieniemy, Chiefs offensive coordinator (Falcons, Lions, Chargers, Jaguars)

– Brian Daboll, offensive coordinator for Bills (Chargers)

– Brandon Staley, defensive coordinator for Rams (Chargers)

The Jets have yet to conduct an interview to replace Gase, but Douglas said on Tuesday that he expects the interviews to begin soon.

Unlike the other five candidates, Graham had no other interest as a head coach in this off-season than the Jets.
