The support posts for spring and early summer are changing due to the ongoing pandemic and the widespread closure of theaters.
The dominoes at the box office are falling – again.
Minutes after MGM announced on Thursday that it was pushing No time to die From April to October, Sony announced a series of high-level changes to its spring and summer calendar amid the ongoing pandemic and uncertainty about when the cinema trips will resume in earnest.
Will Gluck’s Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is changing from April 2nd to June 11th, while Jason Reitman Ghostbusters: life after death is being postponed from June 11 to November 11. The film stars Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace and Paul Rudd.
Kay Cannon’s Cinderella, which was scheduled to open on February 5, will now be released on July 16. It stars Camila Cabello in the title role.
Sony also revealed that it is promoting Unknown 2021 entirely. The video game adaptation, starring Tom Holland as treasure hunter Nathan Drake, runs from July 16 to February 11, 2022. The film will be shown on Imax and large premium-format screens, and also starring Mark Wahlberg.
And several hours after its initial announcements, the studio backed down Morbius, Jared Leto’s film based on the Marvel character. It will open on January 21, 2022, a few months ago, starting in October this year.
