PlayStation fans who paled with Sony’s bold black and white design for the PlayStation 5 now have a monochrome option, thanks to accessory maker Dbrand.
Dbrand is now selling replacement plates called Darkplates to customize the color of your PlayStation 5 – and as long as the color you want is matte black, you’re fine. The Dbrand website currently lists customization options for the Disc Edition and PS5 Digital Edition, although the digital edition cards are not yet on sale. A set of external cards costs $ 49 (excluding shipping costs) for editing the disc.
The outer plates are not a skin. They are entirely new components that will allow you to replace the side and middle plates of your PS5. Therefore, you will have to install them yourself. Sony dismantled the PS5 in October, which shows how the components come loose.
But the demand is high. Dbrand is already sold out on his first runs of manufacturing his Darkplates, and the earliest you can get a set is May 2021.
Dbrand is being passionate about its new product, saying on its website: “Go ahead, sue us”. Presumably, this is a reference to another company’s attempt to sell black PS5 replacement cards under the name PlateStation 5. The company changed its name, but said Sony threatened a lawsuit over its replacement cards and, at the end of the accounts, canceled all orders.
