GE’s smart home brand goes beyond lighting with a security camera

A thermostat is also in the works, GE Lighting said, although it did not provide further details.

The first product is more modest. The Cync Outdoor Smart Plug allows you to remotely control two outlets (say, for your patio lights or a fountain) using the Cync app or voice assistants like Alexa and Google Assistant. There is no price available here, either, but the plug will be available in March.

A smart Cync fan speed switch will help you control fans without the need for a dedicated smart home hub, including scheduling and teaming with other devices. It should arrive in June.

The C by GE app will not transition to the Cync name until March, although it does include a feature that shows lighting changes based on a photo of your room. In other words, you won’t have to blind yourself or plunge into the darkness just to see if a configuration change works. It is safe to say that the old name may be a distant memory in the coming months, however, and Cync can be a viable alternative if you are looking to equip your entire home with a company’s equipment.
