Duluth, Georgia – A teenager from the Atlanta suburb was arrested on charges of defrauding a supermarket where he worked for nearly $ 1 million over a two-week period. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that 19-year-old Tre Brown was arrested on Thursday by Gwinnett County detectives on charges of theft.
He was released from prison on $ 11,200 bail.
Gwinnett County Police spokesman Corporal Collin Flynn said Brown stole more than $ 980,000 in two weeks in December and January, making more than 40 returns for nonexistent items.
The money from the returns, ranging in value from $ 75 to more than $ 87,000, was put on credit cards, the investigators said.

Police said Brown used the stolen money to buy two cars, clothes, weapons and shoes. Before his arrest, the teenager reportedly destroyed one of the cars, a Chevrolet Camaro, said Flynn.
The investigation began after employees of Kroger, based in Cincinnati, noticed the transactions.
Police said Brown stole the money while an employee charged with signaling fraudulent transactions was on vacation.
A “large sum of money” was returned to Kroger after the arrest, but it was not clear on Thursday how much was recovered.
