Georgia Women’s Tennis Beats South Carolina for Eighth Consecutive Victory | Georgia Sports

Georgia’s women’s tennis # 3 continued its winning streak by beating South Carolina 4-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex to remain undefeated in the SEC game.

The Bulldogs started the day by winning their tenth doubles point of the season. Meg Kowalski and Lea Ma started running after a tough 6-4 victory over Silvia Chinellato and Elise Mills on the third court.

“Being able to do the double quickly helped in our other two games,” said Kowalski. “It was a huge boost for the whole team and, fortunately, we managed to reach the doubles point.”

Katarina Jokic and Ariana Arseneault won the Georgia doubles point by defeating No. 29 Mia Horvit and Megan Davies 7-5 in court one.

“We played on Friday and it wasn’t like we wanted to, so we were focused on interacting with the crowd and basically loving the game,” said Jokic. “I love the battle, so when it’s a close fight I like it better and it really helps.”

73, Morgan Coppoc, gave his teammates some breathing space, beating their opponent Allie Gretkowski 6-1 6-4 to give the Bulldogs another point.

No. 60 Kowalski also gave the Bulldogs a point by winning 6-2 and 6-3 over Chinellato, giving Georgia a 3-0 lead. With today’s singles win, Kowalski managed to increase his winning streak in two matches to 19.

“I don’t really care about my streak. All I care about is my team’s streak, ”said Kowalski. “I want us to get that ring at the end of the season.”

Elena Christofi submitted for the Bulldogs with her 6-4 6-1 win against Lindsay Tulenko.

With Sunday’s sweep over South Carolina, Bulldogs now have four SEC sweeps this season.

“There are things in this match that we have to work on and do better,” said coach Jeff Wallace. “I think the championship teams are good teams and win a lot of matches, but they still have to learn, develop and improve over the course of the season. Championship teams learn from everything ”.

Georgia will be back on Friday against LSU in Baton Rouge to begin a trip including departures from Texas A&M, Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Bulldogs will not be back at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex until April.

“We are so used to [being on the road]”Said Wallace. “We had a big crowd today, I thank them for sure, but it’s not like we have that big crowd in Baton Rouge or College Station, but we have each other and that’s all we will need.”
