State Representative Park Cannon thanked his supporters and tweeted about his release shortly after midnight on Friday morning.

“I am not the first Georgian to be arrested for fighting suppression of voters. I would love to say that I am the last, but we know that this is not true, ”wrote Cannon. “But someday soon, that last person will come out of prison for the last time and breathe for the first time, knowing that no one will be arrested again for fighting for the right to vote.”

The police told The Hill that Cannon was taken to Fulton County Jail, where she was accused of obstructing law enforcement, as well as “preventing or interrupting General Assembly sessions or other member meetings”.

Cannon noted that the litigation bill was signed just days after eight people, including several Asian Americans, died in a wave of shootings against massage parlors in the Atlanta area.

“We are not going to live in fear and we will not be controlled. We have a right to our future and a right to our freedom. We will unite and continue to fight white supremacy in all its forms, ”she continued.

Lieutenant W. Mark Riley, director of public information for the Georgia State Patrol, said Cannon was instructed to stop knocking on the door, which was marked with a “Governor Staff Only” sign.

“She was warned again if she didn’t stop, she would be arrested for obstructing and disturbing the press conference,” he added. “Rep. Cannon refused to stop knocking on the door” and was then “put under arrest and escorted out of the Capitol.”

Warnock visited Cannon at Fulton County Prison on Thursday night, telling reporters outside that Cannon is “a very dignified and committed civil servant”.
