Georgia Senator David Perdue quarantined in the final runoff period after possible exposure to COVID-19

With just five days to go before Georgia’s second round, Senator David Perdue is in quarantine after coming into close contact with someone with coronavirus. “This morning, Senator Perdue was notified that he had close contact with someone in the campaign whose test was positive for COVID-19,” said his campaign team in a statement. “Senator Perdue and his wife were negative today, but following their doctor’s recommendations and according to CDC guidelines, they will be quarantined.”

Perdue campaigned at an indoor event “Brews for Perdue” on Wednesday in Dalton. The video of the event shows Perdue and the majority of the public without masks. President Trump and President-elect Biden are due to travel to Georgia to campaign on Monday. Presumably, Perdue will not be able to attend planned campaign events in a crucial race that will determine which party will control the Senate next year.
