ATHENS – It has been a long and challenging season for Georgia football, and the Bulldogs have not achieved everything they were aiming for, nor have they achieved their first team’s goal of winning the SEC East Division.
And yet, Coach Kirby Smart’s team continued to fight and undoubtedly played their best football of the season by entering the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl at noon on Friday at the Mercedes-Benz stadium.
โThese kids really did more, okay? โSmart said, explaining the rigors of a season that started with practice last June and included the mental ups and downs of four games being moved, postponed or canceled amid a structured Covid-19 protocol that forced them to give up travel. back home and friends in campus social circles ..
“They did more during the pandemic because they had to work twice as hard to remain available,” said Smart. “They had to practice twice a week, which means practicing for Missouri once, practicing for Missouri again, practicing for Vandy once, practicing for Vandy again, practicing more.”
Vanderbilt, of course, canceled, so now the undefeated Cincinnati enters the ring.
The Bearcats worked hard and did everything they could to reach their final goals, an appearance in the college football playoffs and a chance at the national title, but they were denied.
“If you want to state that you want to have an opportunity and a chance,” said Bearcats coach Luke Fickell, “this is an opportunity and this is a chance.”
The Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl in fact promises to have two of the most engaged teams in the postseason fighting for a final victory.
Both teams are hungry. Both teams have something to prove.
