Georgia basketball has a chance to correct one of its worst defeats on Saturday against South Carolina.
The Gamecocks shamed the Bulldogs a month ago, winning in Columbia 83-59. At the time, the game looked like a turning point for the South Carolina season, but Georgia was the team that started playing their best basketball. Since then, Georgia have won five of their last eight games, while South Carolina has won in their last eight games.
Still, South Carolina has already proven itself capable of defeating Georgia. Bulldogs need a victory to keep their hopes recently revived in the NCAA Tournament alive. Here’s what Georgia needs to do to defeat South Carolina.
Establish identity
Without a real big man or three-pointed snipers, Georgia depends entirely on its identity. Bulldogs are a fantastic team when they play fast, score three points and praise Sahvir Wheeler’s strokes.
When Georgia is unable to do these things, it tends to be oppressed by its opponents. It happened at the first meeting in South Carolina. Only two Bulldogs scored in double digits. The team shot just 4 of 26 from a long distance and scored a measly 13 break points.
Reduce turnover
Georgia is able to win games when it has problems with ball security, but does not need to give Gamecocks any chance. At the first meeting, the Bulldogs committed 20 turnovers. Six Bulldogs made several turns and Wheeler also had four.
Bulldogs desperately need that victory and costly mistakes in ball security can ruin the season once and for all.
