George Conway, husband of former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway, on Sunday attacked White House chief of staff Mark Meadows after he tweeted about Republican Party support to overturn the election results.

“We are now well over 100 members of the House and a dozen senators ready to fight for electoral integrity and object to certification,” Meadows said in a tweet on Saturday. “It’s time to fight.”

“You are an idiot and a shame,” tweeted Conway in response.

Lawmakers on January 6 are expected to certify the results of the 2020 elections in favor of Biden before his inauguration.

Meanwhile, Republican senators, led by Ted Cruz, are spearheading an effort to reject President-elect Joe Biden’s victory. At least 12 Republican senators said they would support the effort.

Biden won the presidential election with 306 electoral votes, thanks to major battlefield states like Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Arizona. Trump obtained only 232 electoral votes. All states have already certified their vote counts.

Since Biden’s victory two months ago, Trump has refused to explicitly acknowledge his defeat. A few hours after the race was called for Biden, Trump said “the election is far from over.”

He has since doubled down and tried to overturn the results in state and federal courts across the country. The Trump campaign and the president’s allies have so far filed, and lost, dozens of lawsuits in various battlefield states contesting the results.

And allegations of electoral fraud have been dropped and refuted countless times since Trump and his lawyers made their case.

But senators who promise to vote against Biden’s victory do not back down. His efforts are being supported by Republican lawmakers in the House of Representatives.

At least 140 House Republicans have indicated that they plan to vote against counting electoral votes and delay the certification process for Biden.

But several Republicans, like Senator Ben Sasse, have condemned any attempt to try to overturn election results.

Biden is expected to win the majority of the votes needed for certification because of the Democratic majority in the House and the Republican lawmakers who spoke out against this objection effort.
