George Clooney explains why he refused to give his twins Alexander and Ella ‘strange names’

It is not uncommon for celebrities to give their children unique and sometimes bizarre names with a not so obvious meaning.

But it turns out that George Clooney did not accept any of this when he and his wife Amal Alamuddin welcomed the twins into the world three and a half years ago.

The acclaimed actor’s reasoning was that life under the brilliance of his fame would be problematic enough for his children without having strange names.

After being known as the perpetual bachelor during the early years of his career, Clooney turned the personality of the single man and women upside down when he married Alamuddin in September 2014.

He then won the title of “family man” when the couple became the father of twins – a boy and a girl – in June 2017.

In deciding the names of his children, the two-time Oscar winner insisted that they did not follow the trend for unusual names; so they decided on Alexander and Ella.

– I didn’t want strange names for our children. They will have enough problems already. It’s hard to be the son of someone famous and successful, ‘explained the Descendants star in an interview with AARP.

Clooney’s confession comes after he spent a good nine months in quarantine, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, at his home in Los Angeles.

Like many people during confinement, the actor directed a lot of attention to his children and started making time for things he had been putting off.

One of his lesser-known talents is sewing, which has been in use since the coronavirus was considered a pandemic in mid-March 2020.

“I sew children’s clothes a lot,” said Clooney in the February / March issue of the magazine. – And my wife’s dress she tore a few times. I was single for a long time and I had no money, and you have to learn to fix things. ‘

He also revealed that he fixed a torn dress for his wife after years of learning how to repair it on his own as a longtime bachelor.

‘If we were on an island and you had to choose someone to help you survive, I would choose me. Ask all my friends and they will choose me too. I can make a splash with that and a jar with that.

The actor became useful around the house while the family closed and decided to stain the furniture and the interiors and exteriors of his house.

‘It was getting dirty and I had buckets of stain, and I was like,’ Well, what else am I going to do? ‘It makes me feel better. And I put chicken wire around the dog yard, ‘he said.

The pandemic did not stop his passion for writing letters either.

Clooney appreciates letters, and some from Walter Cronkite, Paul Newman and Gregory Peck framed and hung in his home.

The actor and his wife also exchange letters every few months, a tradition that continues despite the health crisis.

“Even in the block, I write a letter and put it on her desk, or she writes a letter and leaves it under the pillow,” he said of his romantic gestures to help maintain the spontaneous relationship.

With Clooney fast approaching his 60th birthday, the Kentucky native confessed he declined offers to appear on the cover of AARP for about 10 years.

He, however, thought of doing this as a joke when celebrating his 50th birthday.

‘I wanted to do a funny part, which would be the sexiest man still alive. I would have done a funny photo, like with a walker, ‘said Clooney in the interview.

Most recently, Clooney directed and starred in the sci-fi movie The Midnight Sky, which had a limited theatrical release in December 2020, before being released on Netflix.
