Genshin Impact Devs received PS5s and graphics cards via RNG

Sweepstakes and giveaways are not uncommon at corporate parties, but the company behind Impact Genshin it went a step further, randomly rewarding graphics cards and PS5s hard to get from employees as thanks for helping to make one of the hottest new free-to-play gacha games of last year.

“MiHoYo, the developers of Impact Genshin, held their annual employee meeting, where they distributed a lot of electronics to employees in a lottery, ”senior data analyst at Niko Partners, Daniel Ahmad, wrote on Twitter yesterday. The accompanying photos showed giant stacks of iPhones, Nintendo Switches, GeForce RTX and PlayStation 5s graphics cards, the latter of which was especially difficult for people to get their hands on after the stockout.

The irony, of course, Like PC Gamer pointed, is that Impact Genshin is largely based on lotteries –based on random number generators (RNG)inside which players pay in-game cash or in real money for a chance to unlock new rare characters. Some are much more difficult to obtain than others, causing players to grind and burn resources waiting for first-rate characters like Venti to fall. Some players I spent a lot of money on the game this way, One of the reasons Impact Genshin went on to make almost $ 400 million in the first few months, according to the mobile analytics company Sensor Tower.

To celebrate the game’s lucrative launch, MiHoYo reportedly used a similar rate-reduction system to allocate the limited supply of gaming hardware it planned to donate to employees in addition to other bonuses. According to a screenshot shared by Ahmad, the team had a 30% chance on a Nintendo switch, a 21% chance on an RTX 3070 graphics card, a 16% chance on a PS5 and a 1% chance of getting an Apple Watch Series 6 combo pack and iPhone 12 Pro Max.

For now, it looks like you have at least the same chance of winning a PS5 by getting a job at Impact Genshin like you do when you update your Amazon cart.
