GENESEE COUNTY, MI – The County Health Department says a Meijer COVID-19 vaccine clinic scheduled for Wednesday, January 27, has caused confusion among individuals with consultations, some of whom have come for vaccinations at their offices and at Hamilton Clinic community of the Health Network.
In a local alert posted on its Facebook page, the county asked those with appointments at a Meijer store to confirm the time and place of vaccination through the local Meijer pharmacy.
“It’s causing confusion for Hamilton, the Department of Health and, apparently, Meijer …” said Suzanne Cupal, a spokesman for the county Department of Health. “We will (continue) redirect everyone.”
A Meijer spokesman said in an email to MLive-The Flint Journal that the county’s original Facebook alert was “incorrect”, and the county updated the alert to indicate that Meijer COVID-19 vaccine appointments are not related to vaccine clinics operated by the county.
Wednesday’s confusion comes when the county’s vaccine waiting list has increased to more than 30,000 and as the state’s distribution of vaccines to the county has been much lower than demand.
According to the Michigan state vaccination panel, 34,950 doses of the vaccine were delivered to Genesee County on Monday, January 25, but only a portion of those doses were delivered to the Department of Health.
Meijer announced in December that it was preparing for an extensive vaccine administration program in the six states in which it operates.
