GCU Oscar Frayer dead at 23 after car accident

Just three days after playing in his first NCAA tournament, Grand Canyon’s Oscar Frayer died Tuesday morning in a car accident.

The 23-year-old was traveling with his sister, Andrea Moore, 28, and another passenger on I-5 SB south of Walnut Grove Road when the Subaru collided with the back of a California Highway Patrol car on the side of the road assisting a disabled trailer at around 2:30 am. Subaru hit a tree and caught fire.

All three passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a statement from the CHP.

“We love O,” said Grand Canyon coach Bryce Drew in a statement. “He was the heart of our team with his vibrant and energetic personality. I cannot express in words the pain and sadness that we all feel, but we know that he is in heaven and it gives us great joy to know that we will be together again ”.

Frayer, a senior striker known as the “High Flyer”, scored eight points, five assists and three blocks in Antelopes’ 86-74 defeat to Iowa in the NCAA tournament on Saturday. He ended his career at the NCAA with the school record for blocked shots (93), while ranking fourth in points (970) and three points (144).

The native of Oakland, California, graduated in Communications and was ready to start GCU in April.
