Gazelle is closing its exchange deal

If you are an old PhoneArena reader, you should be familiar with Gazelle. The company, since 2006, is known for its online buyback and exchange programs. Customers exchange smartphones, tablets and other older devices for cash or a credit that can be used to purchase refurbished company devices. Yet, Gazelle announced that, as of February 1, 2021, it will no longer offer exchanges on the Gazelle website. Exchanges that are in progress will continue as planned and users can check the status of these transactions by accessing their exchange account.
Gazelle says that consumers will still be able to visit the company’s website to purchase “high quality used phones for a fraction of the price”. The company adds: “We are excited to continue to help you not only save with incredible discounts on leading smart devices, but also to stay connected for much less than retail prices!” And Gazelle even offers a way for you to earn some money by getting rid of your old devices. This can be done using the equipment’s ecoATM, which is available at more than 4,000 locations in the United States. You will find ecoATM in supermarkets, select malls and retailers in the states. When you put your old device in the machine, you are instantly rewarded with money. At the same time, you are helping the planet by removing electronic waste from the environment. Gazelle says you are “going green to stay green!” You can find a machine near you by clicking on this page.

After January 31, 2021, Gazelle will no longer be able to accept exchanges through its website. You will still be able to view your exchange account until March 31, 2021 to keep track of any exchange negotiations you have in progress. Gazelle has yet to announce a reason for its exit from the exchange and buyback segment of the smartphone industry, although we wonder if consumers prefer to take advantage of the new phone exchange offers offered by operators and manufacturers.
