Garth Brooks’ next Biden opening show gets mixed reactions from fans

Garth Brooks fans are divided over the upcoming presentation of the country icon at the inauguration ceremony of President-elect Joe Biden.

On Monday, the 58-year-old “Friends in Low Places” singer officially joined Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez on the lineup.

Many fans were thrilled to hear that the star was offering his talents for the ceremony.

“Apparently, Garth Brooks has some friends in high places too!” said a Twitter user. “Looking forward to your performance during our virtual inauguration celebration, for our president, Biden and Vice President Harris.”

“I, reading garth brooks, will play at the opening of @JoeBiden”, said another next to a video clip of a man jumping and kicking his heels.

Other said: “Incredible. I love Garth!”

Others, however, seemed unhappy.

“Garth agrees to play the biden’s possession as a Republican, putting a new interpretation on ‘friends in low places'” wrote a critic.

“Biden is not good”, said another. “We are divided because people like Garth Brooks were willing to be divided when they told us to.”

Another person said they “stopped following” the musician and removed “all songs” from Brooks from his phone.

During Monday’s announcement, the presidential inauguration committee said that future first lady Jill Biden spoke personally to Brooks, who joked that he was likely to be “the only Republican at the ceremony”. However, he made a point of noting that his presence there is to bring people together, not politics.

“I played for all the presidents that exist since Carter, with the exception of Reagan. It is an honor for me to serve … and it is one of the things that, if my family is around, no matter who the president-elect is, it is a honor to be invited, “he told reporters, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Brooks stopped performing at the inauguration of Donald Trump, but later explained that it was a matter of scheduling, not a political statement.

At the time, Brooks was on tour and said in an episode of his Facebook show “Inside Studio G” that “he left it up to karma. If Cincinnati is two weekends instead of one, then of course we’re out” , according to Billboard.
