Following the recent launch of the Speedplay of a pedal-based energy meter, Garmin has launched a new line of its own. The Garmin Rally range of power meters includes six different power meters that are compatible with three different types of locks for on and off-road use.
Rally RS100 and Rally RS200 are compatible with Shimano SPD-SL road locks, while Rally RK100 and Rally RK200 are compatible with Look KEO road locks. The Rally XC100 and Rally XC200 models are compatible with Shimano SPD locks for mountain bike, gravel or cyclocross cyclists.
Pedal-based power meters have become increasingly popular due to their simplicity. Riders can simply change their pedals, which is easier than finding a crank-based power meter with the correct size and compatibility, and they can be easily switched between bikes for families with multiple bikes.
For the new Garmin Rally line, the number associated with each model indicates whether the energy meter uses a single or double sensor. For example, the RK200 Rally uses a double sensor, which means that drivers can monitor the left and right data outputs. The dual sensor can also monitor the time spent in a standing or sitting position and where, in pedaling, the rider is producing more power.
Meanwhile, models with the suffix ‘100’, such as the Rally RK100, are single-sensor models that track power and cadence data only from the left pedal. Garmin says they can be upgraded to a dual sensor if pilots choose.
The pedals can be paired with Garmin Edge cycling computers, as well as the Garmin Connect app. They can also be combined with various indoor cycling apps, such as Zwift.
Dual sensor pedals range in price from £ 969.99 to £ 1,059.99, while single sensor pedals range from £ 569.99 to £ 619.99. Pedals, along with upgrade pedals and conversion kits, are now available.
