Garmin has launched the new Enduro sports watch, aimed at ultrarunners and long distance racing competitors.
It is another reinterpretation of the Garmin Fenix 6, aimed at the ultra-fast segment, with some exclusive features designed for life on the trail. Starting at $ 799.99, it is actually as expensive as the Fenix and twice the price of the Garmin Instinct Solar watch outdoors, which will be of interest to runners on less extreme trails.
It introduces the company’s new solar technology, which Garmin says will offer up to 65 days (in energy saving modes) with 70 hours of GPS tracking – increasing to 80 hours if you take advantage of the solar.
It has the same construction as the Fenix 6X and the same low resolution 280×280 color LCD transflective screen, with a robust 51 mm case.
However, we are fans of the new UltraFit nylon bracelet, and it is lighter than the Fenix 6X. It tilts the scale by 76g for the standard version and only 58g for the titanium version.
And there are a number of adjustments in biometrics for ultrarunners and pilots.
The first is an updated VO2 Max score that takes trail running into account. On standard Garmin devices, the maximum VO2 is estimated in part using the pace. Thus, runners who change to the trail may find the slowest hammers at their maximum VO2. The Garmin Enduro will adjust to that.
There is also a new ultrarun sport profile on the Garmin Enduro, with a rest button that will mark the time spent at aid stations during races.
However, this does not go through nutrition and hydration planning, which is a characteristic of the excellent Polar Grit X, and something that will be of great interest to those who supply for ultra distances.
And the rest is a distillation of the main resources found in Fenix. There is ClimbPro that will show data about your climbs / descents in hills and, if you have uploaded a route in advance, it will warn you about the next climbs.
There is also a focus on race preparation, with Recovery Advisor and recommended training. Both aspects are even more important for ultrarunners and cyclists.
Cycling is not lacking, and Enduro will also monitor the difficulty and technical nature of mountain biking trails, with specialized data on sand and flow. It will also remember MTB trails and score your performance, so you have something to win next time.
In terms of health and well-being, there is a SpO2 sensor and it produces body battery data that is filtered by the latest Garmin smartwatches. You also get notification support, Garmin Pay and support for Garmin InReach satellite communications if you are really leaving the network.
Unsurprisingly, there is a great price for all of this and it will start at $ 799.99. This means that it is actually the same price as the Fenix 6 – meaning that it will only attract extremely dedicated ultrarunners. For those who just venture out on the trails, the Fenix or Instinct will probably be more suitable.
