Gardner-Webb falls on Twinbill Tuesday to South Carolina

COLOMBIA, SC – Gardner-Webb Softball lost the pair’s two games at Beckham Field on Tuesday, losing 12-4 and 8-0 in South Carolina.

GAME ONE: South Carolina 12, Gardner-Webb 4

Brooke Perry (0-4) lost in the circle to Gardner-Webb. Throwing just two entries, South Carolina was able to gather six hits and eight runs from Perry, who faced a total of 18 hitters in the first game.

Reah Barger entered as a relief pitcher for two innings, allowing only three strokes and four runs for the Gamecock.

In the game, the Runnin ‘Bulldogs managed to collect four hits in total in the first match. Meredith Ferguson led GWU going 2 to 3, followed by Andrea Lyon (1 to 2) and Ramsey Schlafer (1 to 3) each collecting one hit each.

Gardner-Webb scored four runs on the South Carolina ranked team (# 24). The Dog’s opened the scoring early in the game in the first round. Katie Mitchell scored in a wild field, and Andrea Lyon punctuated from a single RBI of Meredith Ferguson.

Later, in the fourth round, GWU scored the next two races in the game. How Meredith Ferguson crashed into a single RBI allowing Mackenzie Lawrence to cross the main board, and Riley McCurry was able to score in a wild field.

Gamecock got a total of nine hits from the Gardner-Webb Bullpen, and Kenzi Maguire led the South Carolina team by making 3-4 behind the main board.

SET TWO: South Carolina 8, Gardner-Webb 0

Laken Myers (1-3) took the defeat in the second game to Runnin ‘Bulldogs. In the 3.1 entries Myers threw, four strikes and seven runs were allowed on 21 batsmen faced, while launching four stikeouts.

In a silent game for Gardner-Webb, South Carolina scored a total of eight runs until the fifth inning, ending the game by a mercy rule.

Leading the Gamecocks, Kassidy Krupit bet 2 out of 3 and was responsible for four RBIs. While Aaliyah White, Katie Prebble and Kylee Gleason hit each other behind the sign.

This weekend, Gardner-Webb returns home and will start the conference in a series of three games against Big South’s opponent, Longwood. Saturday’s double header will start at 1pm.
