LORIS, SC (KKTV) – A boy lost too early was buried over the weekend.
Although his loved ones continue to fight the heinous crime that resulted in his death, on Saturday the focus was on Gannon Stauch, celebrating the life he led and the people he touched in his brief 11 years.
“I was chosen to be the mother of an angel. Albert, you were chosen to be the father of an angel. Laina … you were chosen to be the sister of an angel. “
Mother Landen Hiott, father Albert Stauch and sister Laina had their final moments on Saturday with the boy they affectionately called “Bubba”.
Since he was reported missing near the beginning of the year, it has been a distressing journey for the family, as his escape case has become a case of missing child and ultimately a case of murder. Each time they say goodbye to their son, it gets harder, but Saturday was especially exciting when they finally put their son to rest in his home state of South Carolina.
“Around 10 am this morning, I buried my dear son in a cemetery in Charleston,” said Albert Stauch.
The family stood firm in front of their friends and relatives during the Saturday service as they reflected on the kindness in Gannon’s heart. “
“He has a smile that lights up the room, and that happened when he managed to smile. He simply had grace and an unbelieving spirit about him. I think I can explain it as just an old man. He would just sit down and have a heart of gold and do anything for anyone, ”said Hiott.
“Bubba was the nicest person, my only brother and my favorite brother,” said his younger sister.
Parents said their story taught lessons.
“Hold your kids close and love them because, when it’s over, it’s over and you won’t be able to get them back,” said Stauch.
The family says they are grateful for the overwhelming support of people in Gannon’s native South Carolina and Colorado, where he spent the last months of his life.
“I am very happy for events like this and events in Colorado. Almost all of my son’s memories were of joy, laughter and fun. I just love everyone who came into contact with him, ”said Stauch.
“Gannon is not only my hero, he is your hero, and that means the world to me. I just want to thank everyone who is here. Of all the love spilled from everywhere, ”said Hiott.
“He’s the best person in the world,” added his sister.
Gannon’s stepmother, Letecia Stauch, was arrested for her murder. Between the coronavirus pandemic and questions about its competence, your case has been delayed, but it is gradually making its way into the legal system. Colorado State Hospital recently discovered that she is mentally competent to stand trial. However, Colorado law allows lawyers to request a second opinion. Your next status hearing for the second competency assessment will be on November 12.
