Clemson football continues to dominate South Carolina on and off the field.
The Gamecocks hoped that not suffering an embarrassing defeat for Clemson football on the pitch in 2020 would help them get closer to the Tigers off the field.
Instead, the exact opposite happens.
National Signature Day took place on Wednesday and to say that South Carolina remains an embarrassment would be a severe understatement. After firing former coach Will Muschamp and bringing “home” Shane Beamer, Gamecock fans across the state thought this was going to be a year of big changes, however, it ended up being an absolute nightmare.
How bad is the 2021 football class in South Carolina? They ended up not classified according to some tourist spots and did not pass 78th place according to sites like 247Sports Composite. If you’re watching at home, there are 65 Power 5 football programs plus Notre Dame.
The only Power 5 program to end with a recruiting class worse than South Carolina – Oregon.
That means 13 schools in the Group of Five that ended up recruiting better than the SEC’s all-powerful South Carolina football program – you know, that other southern conference whose fans swear that Clemson football couldn’t compete week after week.
Recruitment classes are not created equally.
The Gamecocks 2021 recruitment class does not include a single four or five star recruit. None. Meanwhile, Clemson football ended with three 5-star recruits and 14 4-star recruits, as well as an all-time program with 94.02 per player.
Gamecock fans everywhere have sworn for years that they are catching up to the Tigers. They are so eager for victories that they continue to enter the movement for teams like Ohio State, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU or anyone else they believe can beat Clemson on the field.
In 2021, Clemson’s football scored its best class for the fourth consecutive year, while South Carolina’s football scored its worst class ever.
Suffice it to say that it is not getting any closer to the field between the two programs and it will take a decade or more before the two teams are comparable on the field.
