Gamecocks vs. Ole Miss postponed

South Carolina’s women’s basketball game against Ole Miss on December 31 at Colonial Life Arena was postponed due to a combination of positive tests, contact tracking and subsequent quarantine of individuals with Ole Miss’s women’s basketball program, consistent with the Southeast COVID Conference- 19 management requirements.

The SEC’s COVID-19 management requirements, as developed by the SEC’s Return to Activity Task Force and Medical Guidance, are available on SECSports.com (PDF).

USC Athletics Communications and Public Relations release

At the moment, no constitution date has been set for what would be the SEC opening for both teams. Tickets for the December 31 game will be honored on the makeup date of the match. Ticket holders for the South Carolina women’s basketball season will receive an email from the box office with more information.

Gamecocks No. 5/4 are scheduled to play on Monday, January 4, in Alabama. They will be back at the Colonial Life Arena for a 7 pm complaint against Georgia on Thursday, January 7.

South Carolina started 5-1 this year, looking to win their second national championship under coach Dawn Staley. The Gamecocks defeated opponents ranked No. 21 Gonzaga and No. 23 Iowa State, but succumbed to No. 8 NC State in their only loss of the season. After the defeat to Wolfpack, the Gamecocks recovered with a victory over Temple, the school where Staley was the head coach when South Carolina signed her.

Gamecocks had a game canceled already this season due to problems with COVID-19. South Carolina was supposed to play Oklahoma at the Bad Boy Mowers Crossover Classic in South Dakota, but the game was canceled. The Gamecocks, however, managed to get a make-up game and played Gonzaga in what turned out to be a kind of three-team round robin event instead of a four-team tournament earlier in the season.
