South Carolina basketball is expected to postpone the third game in a row.
South Carolina basketball was forced to lose a third straight game in the midst of a spurt of COVID in the Gamecock locker room, this time in a rivalry clash with Clemson. The team has not been on the field since December 5, when they lost 77-67 to Houston’s number 10.
The sports department issued a statement about the postponement on Monday night.
Due to the positive COVID-19 tests on the South Carolina men’s basketball program, the dispute scheduled for Saturday (December 19) against Clemson is being postponed with the potential for rescheduling to a future date to be determined. Further updates will be announced when available.
The next competition scheduled for South Carolina is a home game against the state of South Carolina on December 23. Departure time is 7 pm at Colonial Life Arena.
This marks the fourth time a game has been removed from the schedule this season, although it appears that the program will do its best to reschedule the confrontation with its archrival. Contests with Coker, George Washington and Wofford will not be moved to a later date.
The Gamecocks started the season at 1-2, having played just three games since 28 November. The team suspended activities on December 8 due to COVID’s problems, which still persist in the Frank Martin unit.
The clash with No. 24 Clemson would have presented an opportunity to defeat a classified opponent for the first time this year and extend the winning streak to two. Instead, we will have to wait and see if and when the game can be played later in the season.
South Carolina’s next confrontation, for now, is scheduled for December 23, when the Gamecocks will face another state program in the state of South Carolina, before jumping to the conference part of the 2020 list the following week.
