Gamecocks saves over $ 2 million when buying Muschamp

Former South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp he agreed to a smaller purchase than his contract required, but the payment arrangements were in his favor. Muschamp agreed to reduce his acquisition, which was scheduled to be paid during the term of his contract, in favor of a lump sum.

According USA Today’s Steve Berkowitz on his Twitter account, the dismissed Gamecocks technician agreed to receive $ 12.9 million on or before December 31, 2020. He was expected to receive $ 15.3 million during the term of the contract, which was paid monthly until December 31, 2024. Berkowitz tweeted that the agreement is “a complete compromise of issues involving disputed issues of law and fact.”

Assuming the school paid the full amount, which was due just over three weeks ago, the South Carolina athletics department owes Muschamp no more money.

The purchase of Muschamp became an even bigger topic of conversation in December, when it was revealed that all parties never signed an addendum to their contract in January 2020 that would eliminate the escalator clause in their business. If this addendum had been signed, the school would have owed Muschamp approximately $ 3 million less than the $ 15.3 million figure.

The reason the contract was not signed was because Muschamp requested the removal of the treadmill clause to obtain the former running back trainer Thomas Brown more money in your contract. Brown, however, left shortly after the deal was made and the documents were never signed.

Muschamp was fired after seven games this season with his team with a 2-5 record. The Gamecocks ended the season 2-8 with three consecutive defeats under the command of the interim coach Mike Bobo.

Muschamp ended his career in South Carolina with an overall record of 28-30 with Gamecocks and a 17-22 mark at the Southeast Conference.

A defensive-minded coach who built his career as a coordinator on that side of football for LSU, Auburn and Texas, Muschamp oversaw a defense this year allowing 464.4 yards per game, which was 12th in the SEC at the time of his shot, and 36 , 7 points per game, which is a place in the last position in the league.

South Carolina had three coaches removed after hiring new head coach Shane Beamer and the trio – including defensive line coach Bobo Tracy Rocker and offensive line coach Will be friend – owed the school a total of $ 250,000.
